Fort Benning and beyond!








Good Morning Fort Benning! It is early, and I maybe slept 2 hours but I'm ready to go! My heart is beating fast and I have butterflies in my stomach. Such an exciting and emotional time!
Holy cow was yesterday a loooooong day! From waking up at 2:30am, driving to Boston, flying into Savannah, driving to Augusta, then Atlanta and on to Columbus, Georgia. I was given a bright royal blue Jeep Renegade with 2 miles on the odometer and it now has around 375!
Savannah and the drive to Augusta was beautiful!!! Such scenery! Now Atlanta is a whole different story. Too crowded... To dark... Yeah! I basically got to know the state of Georgia without really meaning to or wanting to for that matter. But it was worth it. It was all worth it!
Today I have the privilege of watching one of my baby brothers complete his basic training with the U.S. Army. In the next few days I get to watch all of his hard work and dedication culminate in some amazing ceremonies and show of knowledge. It is bittersweet. Although I am extremely proud to say that my brother is a soldier, I am also full of fear and worry. I trust and pray that God will guide him and keep him safe. The way the world is today any soldier, regardless of branch or job, is in peril. These are the things I worry about. These are things that keep me up at night.
So, Alfred, congratulations on a job well done! Congratulations on completing one of the hardest training, I know, you have ever had to endure. It was hard and I know there were moments where you probably wanted to give up, but you didn't. You persevered, trudged through, and made it! I am more than grateful for inviting me to be here and to be able to see in person how your hard work, dedication and strength has paid off. I wish you all of the best in wherever the next leg of this journey takes you. I will be watching from the sidelines cheering you on! I will be here for support, for strength if and when you need it, comic relief, listening ears and great big sisterly hugs. Love you Squigg! The López Family is super duper proud of you! It's been a long time coming. Ever since I can remember I was always called "fat". From my mother to my family and friends. Be it a term of endearment or because I was truly overweight, those words always hit hard. I remember in elementary school kids would say the meanest things. Things I refuse to repeat as they are not needed to remind me how mean people can be. The funny part is that I wasn't as "fat" as people made me feel. Nómada en Puerto Rico: Día ocho... La despedida...

Hoy me despido y … Tan tristes que son las despedidas. No solo de los seres que amamos sino del pedacito de tierra que mide 110 por 35 millas. Ese terruño de amor el cual está puesto como un sello en nuestros corazones. Es un sentimiento de melancolía mezclado con dolor y con una chispa de frustración. Es un tira y jala que en el corazón uno lleva siempre. Cuanto daría por decir me quedo. Cuanto daría por poder sentirme segura en todos los aspectos en mi isla. Son muchos los obstáculos que me aguantan de volver a vivir en la isla. Es triste y doloroso para mi no poder regresar a mi cuna pero bueno, Dios dirá cual es el futuro de la isla y quien sabe… tan pronto mis chicos estén grandes y yo no aguante mas el frio puede que regrese a mi terruñito, pero por ahora me despido de ella y de mis seres queridos hasta el año que viene. Nómada en Puerto Rico: Día siete!

Hoy nos fuimos de diligencias y luego a disfrutar de un poco de turismo interno en el viejo San Juan... Crepas de Crepe Maker Familia M&M ¡Me pude estacionar!  Hoy visite a mami. El campo donde sus restos descansan es bello. Queda en una loma en Bayamón de donde se ven montañas verdes y sopla una brisa tropical como solo en Puerto Rico puede soplar. Entiendo porque mami escogió este sitio. Se parece un poco al lugar que la vio nacer y donde vivió casi toda su vida. No es Adjuntas pero si es Puerto Rico. Hoy le dije una vez mas lo mucho que la extrañaba. Le sople miles de besos, le llore miles de lagrimas y le di miles de gracias por haber sido la mejor madre del mundo.
